ABOUT

Tia is a Zimbabwean music composer and teacher. With her interests in music, film and culture, she strives to be a meaningful source of influence within communities.

 

She is known for her role as a Music Teacher and Accompanist at Arundel School (Harare, Zimbabwe), and her work as an orchestrator and arranger among musicians in Zimbabwe. She is also known for her music score contributions to Yardang Film Group (Johannesburg, South Africa).

In February 2023, Tia interned for award-winning mixing engineer and producer Riffi Wacho at Jazzworx, Johannesburg. In September 2023, Tia worked with Award-winning Yardang Film Group as a composer for the annual 48 Hour Film Project in Johannesburg. She was nominated for best original score, and won Best Sound Design & Music alongside their sound editor, Eshan Naidoo, for the group's short film entry [REM]AINS

In 2023, she composed a piece for string quartet, voice, and Balaban, called 'Grounded', written in honour of the lives lost in the Turkey-Syria earthquake, and it was performed at the 10th anniversary of Klassik Keyifler's music festival hosted in Izmir, Turkey.

 

In October 2023 she sang well-known Turkish songs at the residence of the Turkish Ambassador of Zimbabwe in celebration of Turkey’s Centenary.

Tia graduated from Stellenbosch University, South Africa (2018 – 2021) with a Bachelor of Music in Composition. There, she learned classical guitar and ukulele, wrote vocal arrangements for the university's annual acapella competition, joined the Stellenbosch University Chamber Choir, and was appointed as Chairperson of the music society known as ‘Musicultus’ (2020), that encouraged an appreciation of all music across campus.

Throughout high school, her commitment to the music department included composing a carol for the choir, performing in various ensembles as a trumpeter, pianist, and alto singer, and receiving various eisteddfod awards under the NIAA Zimbabwe. In 2017, Tia worked at Chisipite Senior School, completed a piano performance diploma (ARSM), and performed the Last Post and Rouse at The Australian Embassy in Zimbabwe for Anzac Day.
